about the company

benerail is the leading railway retail expert in Europe.

Have you ever tried to book an international train ticket? Nightmare, right? That’s what we are trying to solve. Our organisation enables companies to sell international railway tickets across Europe, regardless of the company operating the train. Our API and front-ends are the market standard in the Benelux and are accompanied by supportive services like product data management, consultancy and integration services. In this way we reduce complexity for our customers, so they can focus entirely on optimising service to the travellers while making it easier for them to opt for international railway travel as everything is interconnected.

benerail is your smart ticket to a green world.

benerail is a spin-off from the Belgian and Dutch national railways, well established yet very ambitious. To help the railway industry become the most attractive environmentally-friendly and competitive means of transport, our strategy now focuses on expansion. Driven by our mission to facilitate a significant contribution to a better climate, we are building a scalable and sustainable organisation on a foundation comprised of autonomous and purpose-driven teams.

Our main office is located in Antwerp, with flex in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Brussels. We connect remotely and in person.

about the job

As a data analyst, you will be part of an agile team that’s collaborating with different IT-development teams. Your mission is to co-create data and information sharing products, ranging from API’s and dashboards to comprehensive reports. Additionally, you’ll play a crucial role in evolving the generic data platform to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

Within this role you’ll:

  • Identify the business needs of both internal and external customers, by:
    • putting effort in maintaining a relationship with our (international) customers and partners to support them in the definition and alignment of needs;
    • following market developments in your field of expertise so that you can react quickly to new trends an innovations;
    • advising decision-makers at a functional (business) level.
  • Describe the business needs in high-level analysis documents
  • Handle data in function of the organisations business needs: define goals/results for analysis, identify target data, assess available data sources, collect and verify data quality/relevance, test data retrieval and framework, analyze data, interpret results, validate hypotheses, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders with the appropriate visuals and storyline.

Support of the team will be available. We don’t expect you to tackle this all on your own in the beginning. Initially, you’ll handle more defined tasks, but as you gain autonomy, there’s room to expand into identifying broader needs and opportunities, often before they’re even articulated.

about the team

As a data-analyst you’ll be part of the Business Development team. We primarily enable the rest of the organization by co-creating new products with other teams, leveraging our expertise in data, marketing, financial insights and communication. Operating as an end-2-end team, we have the autonomy to develop our own products independently. Our responsibilities include ensuring data quality by testing various use cases in our reporting tool and following the flow of the initiatives within the organisation. We advise on setting up KPIs and gather the necessary data to measure the outcome of new developments. In situations where the best decision is unclear, we provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and validate assumptions in business cases. This continuous process is an integral part of our ongoing business and undergoes regular organizational review.

Additionally, as the Business Development team, we also conduct our own market research. We tackle quarterly topics as a whole team, breaking them down into smaller pieces and further slicing them into smaller research questions. Through collaborative efforts, we aim to achieve coherent results.

Furthermore, we strive to establish a genuine data culture within the organization, where every team takes ownership of their data. Ultimately, our goal is to foster a robust data culture organisation-wide.
